Jatamansi

Jatamansi is an herb that dates back to biblical times. The herb has been used worldwide as a remedy for several different health issues. A Jatamansi supplement is supposed to have the strength to help treat headaches, restlessness, digestion, and even insomnia.

There are different delivery methods for Jatamansi, the plant can be used as a dry herb or as an oil extract. Even though the herb sounds like it has a number of redeeming qualities, the most important factor is whether or not Jatamansi can treat sleep maintenance difficulties and insomnia.

How does Jatamansi work?

As it turns out, Jatamansi actually comes from the valerian plant family. Valerian is a commonly used herb in sleep supplement formulas for mild sedative effects. Jatamansi happens to have alkaloids and chemicals in common with valerian. Both herbs contain sesquiterpene, a chemical with sedative properties. As such, Jatamansi should work by simply inducing sleep.

Will Jatamansi show results?

However close Jatamansi is to the structure of valerian, it is not close enough. There have been no studies to determine the effective nature of Jatamansi or the chemicals in the herb to treat anything, yet alone insomnia. There is a complete lack of information about Jatamansi and its ability to be used as a sleep supplement.

The Final Story

Jatamansi may have a history but it seems the herb should be history. With no research to back up the claims of Jatamansi, the herb should be rendered useless. There are a number of alternative herbal remedies and organic sleep aids that are better than Jatamansi. In order to fix the occasional sleepless night and even reestablish better sleeping patterns, check for supplements with melatonin or actual valerian root.
